Cadets:
meets at 7:00pm
- 1st, 3rd, &
5th Monday of month
- Ages: 3rd
– 8th grade.
- Group for boys
Meeting activities: we assemble for opening
exercises, and then head off to our Bible lessons. Each grade
level has 2 Cadet Counselors, who are men from our church. After
Bible lessons, we spend the rest of the meeting time on our projects
(e.g. – woodworking projects, pinewood derby cars, models, taxidermy,
etc.), of which merit badges are earned over the years. The
boys and counselors wear traditional Cadet shirts and kerchiefs,
identifying them as Cadets for the evening. If you are
unfamiliar with Cadets, we are sort of like the Boy Scouts. We
also plan extra activities during the year, with a few campouts with
surrounding church Cadet clubs, father-son outings, etc.
About Cadets: a ministry program that will enable boys to
effectively share Christ's love with others from their church and
community. Founded in 1952, the Corps has more than 600 clubs
throughout North America. The organization uses the title
"Calvinist" to honor the Protestant reformer, John Calvin,
who devoted his life to the religious education of God's children.
The Goal of Cadets: Luke 2:52 states that "Jesus grew
in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men." The goal
of the Calvinist Cadet Corps, based upon that verse, is to help boys
to grow spiritually in all areas of life (devotional, mental,
physical, and social) by providing Christian men with a uniquely
designed structure, program, and materials so that they can mentor
boys effectively.
Cadet Influences: the basis of the Calvinist Cadet Corps is the
Word of God (the Bible) as expressed in the Heidelberg Catechism,
the Canons of Dordt, and the Belgic Confession.
